  Unique Scrap Store Ltd is a not-for-profit social enterprise owned and operated by the Unique Coffee Bar (a registered charity 1092205). Rather than paying shareholders, our charity invests all the profit we make from the sales of re-use materials, arts materials and paint back into the local community. A ‘Social Enterprise’ is a business which is established for social rather than shareholder benefits. It is generally agreed that social enterprises possess the following traits:

A Social Enterprise will be driven by a social mission. This social mission is generally the raison d’etre of the organization, taking precedence over all other objectives or goals. Unique Scrap Store has the specific social mission of providing training and employment for six disadvantaged young people. It also has a wider social mission of providing a source of revenue for the Unique Coffee Bar charity (www.uniquecoffeebar.com), allowing it to continue delivering its charitable objectives to the local community. We are also keen to promote a sustainable approach to re-use of waste materials.

A Social Enterprise will generate its own revenue. These revenue streams may take many forms, but they will provide the primary means of support for the organisation’s social mission, and will not exist for the benefit of individual employees or shareholders. Primarily Unique Scrap Store sells re-use materials, new arts materials, re-use paint and training the generate its revenue.

A Social Enterprise will have social and community ownership. This is important in that it helps to safeguard the interests of social beneficiaries and stakeholders. Unique Scrap Store is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Unique Coffee Bar charity (1092205). The charity is governed by a voluntary board which is representative of user groups and the local community.

What is Unique Scrap Store?

Unique Scrap Store is the first online scrapstore in the UK. We operate in a similar way to other scrapstores however Unique Scrap Store is the first to offer online ordering and UK mainland delivery. Unique Scrap Store is a social enterprise which exists to support the Unique Coffee Bar charity (1092205)

Scrapstores operate by collecting industry's usable, safe and clean waste products and offering them for sale at low cost for arts and play projects. Regular collections are made from key businesses in the area. The products are brought back to our central warehouse where they are sorted. Then, general public, leaders of groups including schools, play organisations, drama groups and youth groups come along to the Unique Scrap Store and collect the products which they take back for use in play and arts projects.
